I worked at DFID full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Initially, it makes you feel good that you are going to join DFID. That's it...and nothing else.

    Cons

Believe me.. Very Bad Employer... they don't respect their employees at all. They believe in getting work done by someone and left them in lurch by putting a question mark over capability. Extremely convenient for them. They claim on many positive fronts, but in reality its a different ball game all together. My advice to all, whoever wish to join DFID, PLEASE wake up from your dream. Perhaps you deserve someone better...

    Advice to Management

If you cant give a healthy work environment to your colleagues, esp. new entrants, then stop recruiting further. You don't own legal right to disregard/degrade people around you. In ratings DFID doesn't deserve even half star or less though, but....should be happy with single one.

I worked at DFID full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In Pros I would say that its a U.K.Govt. organization...renowned donor and a good exposure to start off the initial stage of professional life as an Intern. In DFID India amongst all the units, ECGU Team (Energy and Climate Growth Unit) is a fun to work with. People are extremely helpful, friendly, humble and supportive. Zero hierarchy in the unit. Seniors are extremely supportive, always gives patient hearing. In short,...

    Cons

In cons, I am sharing my views for ART (Asia Regional Team) based at DFID India office ONLY. Terrible management and Rubbish system in ART, never recognize the hard work you put in, never believes in a healthy and positive communication and motivating people, lack of trust amongst team members, unsupported attitude towards team members, junior staff and rest of the DFID staff. Seniors are really impatient which makes...

    Advice to Management

In ART, allocate extremely Well Trained, Good and Well Mannered team leaders, seniors and advisers in the region. Provide good training on "Efficient Line Managers" to the senior level persons. Make it mandatory for every senior in the region. Perhaps this would help them to act like sensible and decent human beings. Allocate someone who knows how to consider every team member as a valuable asset, holds a good knowledge...

I have been working at DFID full-time

    Pros

Flexible working hours, part time working and job shares

    Cons

Internal transfers difficult, inexperienced line managers.

    Advice to Management

Line managers need to be sufficiently trained and experienced. Kids straight out of uni should not be managing experienced members of staff regardless of them being in the grade above.
