Pros

The benefits are the only good thing about this place if you are a civilian. The average age in the institute is 57 since everyone want to retire there for the salary.

Cons

Bad place is you are a young professional. You won't have any opportunity to growth. Management is bad BUT the worst part is the system that allows supervisor to do whatever they want with their subordinate. If you don't like your supervisor, well, now they can be in that position forever. It used to be 5 years but now it's indefinite. This is a very toxic place where everyone does the minimum and if you are over 40, most likely you will retired from there. Everyone just count the years until they retire or find another job.

Pros

As a federal job, it offers benefits.

Cons

Corrupt and incompetent leadership, especially in Russian schools. Double standards. Lot's of oppression. Instructors are treated like garbage. School leadership does everything to get rid of professional workforce, because most of the "leaders" are Soviet-era ex-communists who are afraid of losing the only jobs they claim to be able to do in the US. All in all, it feels like a KGB prison: lot's of snitches, liars, and backstabbing. Turnover is so high that the "premier", as they claim, foreign language institute has to hire non-professionals as college teachers. The environment is so hostile that a couple of teachers committed suicide. Others developed depression. And the suicide rate among their students is the highest. Leadership of Russian, Chinese and other schools acts like mafia covering up each other's crimes. I think a private investigation has to be conducted here.
