Treated in the most disgusting manner following successful interview and job offer (which I had to chase in the first instance, which I should have found bizarre when they told me I was their 'stand out' candidate)
Gave my start date as 2 weeks later due to recently moving house and finishing a busy senior management hospitality job, which they accepted. A day before I was due to meet to discuss my documentation for induction my 18 month old was blue lighted to hospital in a serious condition, leading to an 8 day stay in hospital. Advised EG of this immediately so as to avoid any disruption their side. I was constantly hounded during my time in hospital to get this documentation from me. Advised as soon as I was able to that we were out of hospital , however due to the serious nature of my child's stay and from sheer exhaustion asked them if they'd consider my start date being pushed back, but stated if not I would understand. I was really keen to start but as you can imagine completely shaken by my child's sudden illness. They said no, no option of start date change ... OK I said then in that case I'll carry on and do as best I can. They accepted and sorted out my training week. I began to arrange childcare and prepare myself for starting a new job in less than 4 days.
The next day I received a phone call telling me they'd retracted the offer 'due to my circumstances' ! With 4 days notice leaving me job hunting before Christmas already having had a very stressful time.
At no point did anyone once say to me from EG they were concerned or discuss my situation whatsoever. They took it upon themselves to ASSUME I would not work out because I had a family emergency.
If you have any sort of loyalty to your loved ones, do not join this company, I imagine they are not the sort of company to make reasonable adjustments to your schedules or workload if you ever experience what I did.
