Where to begin.... 1901 has burned through 4 Service Desk Managers in 3 years. Recently they are tweeting about how they give you the tools and training to succeed... That is totally untrue. 1901 preaches ITIL, yet a lot of ITIL is about pre-support preparation. From what I saw and experienced, there is NO preparation prior to taking on contracts. What does this mean to you, the service desk fodder. Simple: You wind up supporting customers with procedures that don't work, and no where to turn for guidance. The phone never stops ringing, call after call from the time you arrive till the time you leave. One minute you're dealing with this issue, and then you're dealing with a totally different issue and often have not been given good guidance or instruction. Run, don't walk from an offer of working on their service desk. 1901 is pushing all their service desk employees to get more certifications... why? simple.. because then they are able to promote how many employees have how many such and such certifications to their customers and potential customers. Don't expect raises, and don't expect to get off the service desk. Anyone familiar with a certain satellite based tv provider? Well that is the company that 1901 is modelling their service desk after. NO one wants to stay on the service desk, but only a lucky few are hand selected to have the opportunity to leave it. BEWARE: Many of the recent positive 1901 reviews on here as of late are very suspect. I believe strongly that management is trying to conceal what it's really like to work there by tossing up positive reviews. Additionally several truthful reviews mysteriously disappeared for reasons unknown. The rumor has it that 1901 has also hired a reputation fixing company. It's a bad service desk to work on period, unfortunately there isn't much to choose from in the Blacksburg Virginia area.
