Abiomed fired me when my sick leave ran out after I got COVID from the office. I was gaslit by the COVID response team that my test results were a false positive and there was no way I could have been infected at the office. Abiomed was featured on WCVB news for their COVID protocols and claimed that no employees had become infected at the office. I wrote an email to the diversity advisory group to inform them about the impact long COVID was having on myself and my family. I shared an article about the somewhat unknown long-term problems people were experiencing after recovering from acute COVID. I wrote the letter to bring awareness to a new problem that many employees would likely be impacted by and that there would likely be a future need for better long-term sick policies and support for employees taking care of family impacted by Long COVID. I never received a response. I was given no notice that my FMLA was running out and received a termination letter in the mail. The letter was written one day before the new ADA disability guidelines stating that long COVID is a recognized disability under the ADA. I believe I was terminated because I asked that sick-leave policies be re-examined to accommodate employees who were unable to work due to long COVID symptoms such as chronic fatigue, brain fog, memory loss, migraines, loss of taste and smell, difficulty breathing and exercising. The timing of my dismissal was suspicious considering I was about to become eligible for ADA disability. I was terminated before I could request reasonable accommodations.
