We certainly appreciate it when our current associates are learning new skills and enjoying working with us.

Pros

AMRESCO is a pretty flexible place to work, in general management is willing to work with you on schedules and job duties. The pace can be a little hectic, depending on the department and overtime is occasional. The benefits (medical, 401k, job perks) are decent. There is a wealth of knowledge, but it needs to be sought out. The experience gained from AMRESCO is good, it can be very fulfilling work.

Cons

Advancement opportunities are limited, the feedback being the only job experience a candidate may have is AMRESCO. This can be discouraging to long term employees when a new associate from outside AMRESCO is hired-particularly when all the new hires come from the same place(s). It's even worse when a long time associate is demoted for that reason. While continuous improvement is a core value, sometimes the expectation to continually do better with less creates unnecessary stress on staff. I don't see AMRESCO as more than a way to gain different and more experiences in this unique industry-it is not a long term career choice.

Starting in December, 2015 we began a process of merging six older, smaller buildings into one, big, newer building. So far, four buildings have been completely decommissioned. With most departments now located in a single building, many more associates, many of them long-term employees, enjoy the synergies, cross-training, and transfer opportunities - even to other VWR sites besides AMRESCO/VWR Solon. Employees are recognized in a number of ways, including the VWR recognition program for associates on their 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, etc anniversaries. Associates choose gifts from a catalog, get a certificate, and are recognized in their department - a different process from our annual luncheon that recognized people at their 5 year anniversary intervals. We continue to have the VWR President's Club, and various local employee-nominated recognition programs that come with cash and prizes. While we certainly want leaders to recognize associates, the associates themselves are encouraged to recognize their peers. We were very fortunate that a local pharma company closed its doors a few years ago and a lot of great talent became available for us to hire, at a time when we had openings due to new business and growth. Long term employees who had kept pace with developing their own skills, continuing their education, and learning new processes associated with new business and increased regulatory demands, have continued to excel and be promoted. Our integration with the VWR Recruitment Center, VWR HR policies, benefits, LMS, and HRIS, also included new job titles and descriptions for just about everyone in the company.
