Pros

I worked at AMain for 7 years and it was definitely one of the most memorable and rewarding jobs I have ever had. The culture was fun and you felt more like a family than a company. The owners are amazing. When I was unemployed in they helped me to Chico to take up a full time job at AMain. I've seen the generosity of the company over the years. They go above and beyond to help. Easy to move laterally in the company. PERKS. So many perks at the company. Discounts, snack store on location, peer points system, company activities, Christmas Bonus Checks, Costco Membership, Gym discount, Annual Bonus, Christmas/Summer parties and the list goes on. SUPER FLEXIBLE. This was one of the main reasons I worked here for so long as they allowed me a lot of flexibility with a work life balance with work hours and ease of asking for PTO. YOU DON'T FEEL EXPENDABLE. Here they really try to make each person feel like a person. You aren't just an expendable employee. NO MICROMANAGEMENT. They don't hover over you and micromanage what you are doing on a minute to minute basis.

Cons

Big company decisions are made in secret by management and owners then presented to staff after the decision is made without letting the employees weigh in before they make a decision. Compensation was low compared to other companies in Chico and prices on everything have risen to where its hard to make a living on what they pay. Hard to move up in the company. Chico is getting expensive. Hard to gauge whether they (management) think you are doing a good or bad job.

AMain Response

Hi, Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. I would like to respond here a bit. Of course big company decisions are made in secret by management. Most of the time when we're weighing or looking into big changes, we are held to NDA's which prevent us from discussing items. Also, most employees are not aware of the big picture such as our operating budget and company financials, which are important when making company decisions. Believe me, as soon as decide on some 'change' we communicate it with the company. We do have all employee company meetings every 6 months to create a forum to communicate the big company news and have question/answer sessions. We also provide monthly communications via our newsletter to provide current happenings. We actually are reviewing our compensation levels across the board now as we realize increases are needed since the economic impact to our area since the Camp Fire, but have always felt we provide competitive wages. We do give exit interviews, so unsure why you did not receive one. Yes, we do need to be better about sitting down with employees and providing feedback and communication as formal performance reviews. As a growing business, this has always been a challenge and one we're working on. We send out an annual employee satisfaction survey, but are always ensuring we know the pulse of the company and responding where needed, as needed, with fairness and with the goal to make AMain a fun, yet fulfilling and meaningful, place to work.
