Don’t work for DES, South coast NSW. Our team leader is limited to support us. The regional manager has a wealth of knowledge but my colleagues and I feel she is unsupportive, egotistic, unapproachable and rude towards us staff. She does not allow team leaders any autonomy to manage their teams, and we lost a good one because of it. Her attitude and her decisions are personal judgements, not professional decisions. She makes employment consultants feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Her comments can be very unprofessional, nasty and quite rude. There is a high turnover of good staff due largely to this regional manager. Most staff are waiting for a vacancy in job active because job active managers are more supportive, approachable and complimentary of staff. There is a large turnover of staff and I’m almost always helping new staff with no industry experience. The role itself is sold as a friendly, customer service role but realistically it’s a sales and marketing position that requires a strong personality to succeed.
