Pros

The location is really good: Old port, near square Victoria. There's a lot of restaurant nearby (but they're really expensive though). Good entry salary for a small agency. The office is great!

Cons

About the company: They are working on templates already developed that designers have to personalize for every clients. It's an custom platform that is not up to date. Designers have to work around that to propose creative templates that are limited to a lot of guidelines (those are not written yet, so they’re not provided to designers). Proposed optimization are rarely considered. About the management: It's what we call micromanagement. Everything has to pass through the owner - mails, design process, ideas, color change - even though he's rarely at the office and rarely answers our calls/emails. It's hard to work when you are waiting on reviews. Work review: When you do get a review, it's rarely a good one. It's hard to know what the owner wants from the designers. And if you don't get it the first time, you will be blame. For example, when he present a new project he usually say "Use the same design as the corporate site of the company, but make it beautiful”. It is hard for a designer to make it “the same but different”. Other information: When I left the company, I learned that they were looking at our personal intern chat history and company emails. There's a lot of non ethical things going there.

Pros

Very interesting projects that have a great impact on society - at least for those looking for a job.

Cons

The workload is not balanced, at times, there's a lot going on, and at other times, it's slow.

Pros

I joined Adverto in 2013 with a mandate to manage the Operation, and have since changed my role and responsibilities several times to focus solely on my strengths and what I'm most passionate about. The opportunities to grow and develop an expertise in and outside my field of work have been tremendous. I wasn't just exposed to new ways of doing things, I am constantly encouraged to rethink how I do things and explore avenues that haven't been tackled before. Finally, Adverto truly cares about its customers, vendors and partners, and everyone goes the extra mile to ensure all clients are receiving an unmatched service. It's refreshing to feel you make a difference in an industry which favours profits over quality.

Cons

The size of Adverto brings its own set of challenges as you're expected to compete with companies which deploy 10x more resources, and you're also expected to serve the needs of large employers whose expectations are sometimes unrealistic. Although the success is invigorating, it does often take a toll as you're expected to be at your best all the time.
