Pros

Longevity (with much room still to grow) - formal education with pure motive is one thing; anointing and perfect love is another. Everyone there has the good heart to help.

Cons

But not everyone is fully equipped with what Christ has made available to those who follow Him (and they should be). You must have a strong relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord, with a solid spiritual warfare prayer life in order to work here victoriously, even if demons don't seem to manifest. No one can deny they are there, especially with this line of work. It's part of the mission, and yes, God's grace abounds much more. Christ is Savior and Lord because only He has overcome every sin and issue at the cross :) But if His people are without His pure love, His wisdom and complete submission to strategies that can ONLY come from His Holy Spirit, Advent Group unfortunately resorts to operating as a mere program, instead of the ministry God has purposed it to be. As things are done and operate as Christ plans, funding will never be an issue since there is NO failure in Him.

Pros

All of the staff in every department are nice, friendly, professional folks. We care about each other, support one another. The mission of helping at risk youth is deeply imbedded into the day to day operations, but we don't forget each other.

Cons

It's hard work, and sometimes long hours at non profit pay. But, the rewards are the people, the mission and the satisfaction of making a difference that works for me!

Pros

Led by a team of dedicated, and experienced, men and women who really care about young people and their families. More than 30 years as a pioneer in the treatment of troubled young people, most of whom come out of the juvenile justice system. Strong faith-based focus that really works. Many of the leaders are "lifers" when it comes to helping kids, so they know what they're doing. They're in it for the kids, not the money, and it shows.

Cons

The population Advent helps doesn't always want help. Even when they do, they come from such dysfunction that bringout about change is difficult. Not everyone who signs on to work in the group homes has the strength of character to stick it out. Hours are long, the work is hard. No one sugar coats that even before they are hired, yet to some it comes as a surprise. To work there, you have to care more about making a difference in the lives of others than building a career or finding a comfortable job. The work isn't comfortable, but it is important. Advent is a non-profit, so funding depends heavily on the ability to raise money, which can be difficult.
