Pros

The ONLY possible pro is their commission structure IF you have a golden biotech territory.

Cons

Too many to count: 1) There is absolutely no training from management. They don't even tell you who the main office person is for when you need to contact them and then look at you like you're an idiot when you don't know who to contact. 2)Their sales "advice" is completely contradictory. They will tell you not to give out samples to customers because that slows down the sales cycle, then tell you every customer should be getting samples. 3)They tell you in the beginning "micromanaging doesn't exist at our company" but that is a complete lie. Prepare to be blown up by management after 9pm. 4)They will tell you that you are starting a new territory and they will give you time to build up your sales and that this takes time. Another lie. If you don't have significant sales from the get go expect to be on the chopping block. 5)Management also has no idea how to coordinate schedules. So I hope you are ready for your manager to show up randomly and expect to work with you with little to no heads up. 6)They will insist you "get customers excited" about their products when there is absolutely nothing new/inventive/revolutionary about it. 7)They won't tell you that free shipping and customer samples come from your commission. 8)If you don't meet certain arbitrary daily metrics (that they don't tell you about in the beginning) then they assume you aren't working at all and are therefore wasting their time. 9)Don't be surprised if someone makes an absurd amount of non professional, derogatory, and rude stereotypical comments about customers and random people. I truly hope this helps anyone considering working for this company. It will be nothing but a waste of your time, sanity, and skills and you will get nothing in return. Everything written here is my honest opinion based on my own experiences with this company.

Pros

I've been with Alkali Scientific for 1 year as a Territory Sales Manager and have had a great experience. I started out trained by a field sales trainer which was very helpful. That was followed by working directly with the sales manager. The sales manager is an extremely dedicated, resourceful and supportive leader. As well as funny. Can tell more jokes than he does teaching. Pro or con haha? The sales manager is always there to help and intermittently flys out to work with you which is a huge. A great partner for success. The main pros are freedom and independence as well as unmatched compensation. Others companies are not doing spiff programs on top of a great commission structure. When I first started I was told that this role is like running a small business. That is spot on. You have to wear many hats and be resourceful in order to solve problems and provide your customers with the best support for their supply needs. Many private label products with unique selling points and great profit margins that set apart from competitors.

Cons

Starting the job can seem daunting in the first week or so as the job is very multifaceted. Selling multiple product lines and understanding the lingo and busswords of the industry etcetera. Get through the first week and the sales calls begins to feel like having conversations and making friendships.

Pros

I’ve worked at Alkali Scientific Inc. for two years as a Territory Sales Manager, and overall, my experience has been extremely positive. From the beginning, the onboarding and training process was thorough and well-structured, combining both in-person and online sessions. I felt fully equipped to succeed from the start, with clear guidance on products, systems, and sales strategies. This role also checks all boxes with strong base salary, even better commission, car stipend, full coverage benefits, and 401K match. One of the biggest positives has been the ongoing support I receive from upper management and office staff. Even though I work independently, I’ve never felt like I was on my own when it came to getting help or direction. Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to grow my income through performance, which is motivating and rewarding. I've also had the privilege of building strong relationships with researchers and scientists at top institutions like Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, The Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky, and Northwestern University.

Cons

While the role is highly independent, that level of responsibility has helped me develop valuable self-management and problem-solving skills. It’s a great fit for sales professionals who are motivated by ownership of their territory and appreciate the ability to work autonomously while still being supported when needed.
