Thank you for your comments. We are genuinely surprised and concerned to learn that you feel this way, especially as we have never had this particular feedback in any of the exit interviews we have conducted.
No business is ever perfect, but we genuinely listen to and care about what our colleagues say, whether that’s in our regular employee surveys, through our AlphaPeople forum, or via any other channel. Where we believe that criticism is well-founded , we will do everything we can to address it, as it is in everyone’s interests to work in a happy and productive team. For example, we have schemes in place to reward people for making cost-saving suggestions and for nominating colleagues for our quarterly CARE awards, which recognise and reward employees for demonstrating our key values.
We actively encourage colleagues to speak up if they are unhappy in their role, and have a number of measures in place to help with such situations. But we also understand that not everyone feels comfortable speaking to their line manager about any issues they may have, and have therefore invested in an independent and confidential Employee Assistance Programme. We also have a number of trained Mental Health First Aiders who work across the company.
We have some very experienced and excellent managers within the business, but we recognise that there is always room for improvement! We have therefore been running a leadership and management development programme, which many of the managers have participated in, as well as a First Line Manager programme to equip new and potential managers with the skills they need to be effective leaders. We also offer tailored coaching for managers where specific needs arise. Last year, all managers participated in Diversity, Equality & Inclusion training, which included anti-bullying training. And as a result of upcoming changes in employment law, further training on sexual harassment will shortly be provided to all employees.
We carry out salary benchmarking exercises on a regular basis to ensure our employees are paid the market rate for their role, and all salaries are reviewed at least annually. Our latest employee survey indicated that the vast majority of staff felt that their salary was at or above market rate. We also believe that we offer a comprehensive range of additional and attractive benefits as part of the overall remuneration package.
Having said all that, we appreciate that there isn’t always a good cultural fit between employee and employer, so we wish you all the very best and hope that you are much happier in your new role.
