Pros
Developed a lot more confidence in my leadership skills. Team gas, food, and housing were covered. Work mostly rewarding. Learned a lot of new small skills and about a few different fields. Would recommend for someone hesitant to go to college because they dont know for sue what they would study. AmeriCorps experience attracted attention from prospective employers.
Cons
Its a residential program so expectations of good work life balance should be tempered anyways, but you really have very minimal agency over your free time. The personal benefits to my character were gained in roughly the first month and a half of serving. Did not feel like I was growing at all as a person or leader past that point. Left the program early
