Project management kept demanding live updates by the second even though we already had clear review rounds scheduled. I work best with direct expectations and room to actually produce, not being watched in real time. The invoiced hours didn’t match what I submitted, their payment system wasn’t explained, and it caused delays — another contractor had the same issues. The irony is the project was literally about not micromanaging advanced systems because they outperform humans, yet the people building that work were being micromanaged by managers who couldn’t create the work themselves, which completely contradicted the workflow the project was supposed to embody.
