Great place if you’re good with politics - Executive Attorney-General's Chambers Employee Review

Pros

Stable job, like most others in public service.

Cons

- Extremely political and toxic environment: people backstab each other just to climb higher. Your progression has nothing to do with your ability to do your job well, but has everything to do with whether you’re liked by a certain group of people. Management is biased and listens to select few, forming opinions of you not based on your work performance. Good for you if you’re in the right “camp” - Mentally draining: you can try your best and put in extra hours, but your RO will tell you you’re only meeting expectations. You can’t just focus on work, you have to deal with politics whether you like it or not. - Unequal work distribution: some people get loaded with plenty of work while others obviously do way less. No transparency in the way work is assigned. Management keeps telling you to do more to justify your promotion, but you will realize whatever you do will never be enough

Pros

stable, good if you’re not an executive or ok with extremely slow progression

Cons

extremely slow progression. very legal officer centric. seems like changes are geared towards making legal officers’ lives better. non-legally trained officers are expected to do more and more legal and admin work so legal officers have less to do, and non-legally trained officers are seen as not up to par if they are unable to do certain tasks that should be a legal officer’s job, even though they are not trained for it. this will all be packaged as “training and development” and to “justify” promotions, which you don’t get unless you are part of a privileged few that management favors. if you’re good at playing games and want to spend more time doing that than doing actual work, then this place is perfect for you.
