Pros
The overall company culture is one of compassion, learning, and being consciously aware that the world can be hard, and there are systems in place to ease that. Amazing fertility benefits, generous PTO policy, clean work environment, supplemental learning resources and overall decent people are all pros for working here until you get to the brand level. There is also a really good unbiased EAP program, which you will need for counseling if you work at BET.
Cons
Much like the government, the local leaders affect your life the most. This is the equivalent to working at a brand. While every workplace has its rounds of growing pains, the most toxic work environment experienced at Viacom, BET, or any other place I’ve worked was under the tyranny of Amy Dubois. This is not just specific to me, during her time here we’ve had the highest turnover rate, the most complaints filed to HR, and the most toxic work environment. As is customary and to be expected, even welcomed, Amy hired a team that she can trust. What was not expected was how under-qualified they were/are and how they were encouraged to foster a toxic workplace complete with bullying, harassment, and shifting of funds to inflate salaries, vanity metrics, and accommodate housing and traveling. Two of the biggest perpetrators were Angela Burt Murray and Shelly Jones. While Angela has left, Shelly is still there, causing an uncomfortable work environment and bottlenecking progress. What’s most disappointing, is that HR has been made aware of several instances for all three of these people and has done absolutely nothing. Emails were sent to senior leadership, they have been mentioned in almost every exit interview, other departments refused to collaborate with the digital team to avoid the mismanagement and lack of strategy, and people have quit with no job bc of the toxicity and still, no corrective actions.
