Pros

It’s a government job full of lower-level employees who believe in the stated mission and with a passion for what they do.

Cons

You’d have to be in the upper ranks of management in most departments to make more money than a 22-year-old kindergarten teacher, only you don’t get summers or other holidays off.

Pros

The staff at the zoo and BREC as a whole are all wonderful. The organization does a great job with the onboarding process, both in terms of knowing what you'll be doing in your position and knowing about the organization. The volunteers for the education department are also all great at what they do.

Cons

The pay was not competitive. For a full-time zoo educator, it was less than $15 an hour. There were also expectations of performing many different duties, including, but not limited to, animal care (cleaning, diet preparation, and enrichment), scheduling programs and organizing their payment, and leading programs at the zoo and off-grounds.
