Pros
The people doing the actual work are exceptional. They are intelligent, mission-driven, collaborative, and genuinely care about creating meaningful impact. The talent across teams is truly impressive, but short lived. Turnover is very high.
Cons
The Founders and Executive Leadership Team struggle with basic decision-making and lack strategic clarity. They hire incredibly smart people but operate like a first-year startup; constantly shifting priorities, changing direction, and reallocating funding with little transparency or stability. Additionally, there is a noticeable lack of integrity at the leadership level, which erodes trust and undermines the company’s stated values. This environment creates significant burnout among the very people who keep the company afloat. Over the past year, more than a dozen leaders have departed—many with less than a year of tenure, because it has become increasingly clear that BetterUp is not aligned to its core values and continues to lack a coherent organizational identity. Based on my experience, I would not recommend working at BetterUp.
