Pros

The work life balance is great and the pay is decent. Very few teams work more than 40 hours a week. Schedules are very flexible and the time of day you show up for work is basically left to your own discretion. If a project date is slipping almost always project features get cut or the date gets extended with overtime very rarely considered a recovery option. Recent changes are providing opportunity for advancement and existing employees are being considered first for those positions.

Cons

Their non-compete agreement is ridiculous. Get a copy of it before you entertain an offer. Team leads are given the late night on call responsibilities. Nepotism and cronyism in the company is rampant. Despite management saying they hate politics, politics are prevalent, nurtured, and only growing in importance. A sideways look, a word thought to be disrespectful, or bringing up concerns about the group think strategy of the day are quite literally fireable offenses. Critical thinking and good project execution seem a distant second to getting along. Accountability appears to flow only one way. The practice of hiring from within and cronyism has led to several in positions of authority who from my perspective perform their responsibilities poorly and are unlikely to leave since neither their experience nor aimless performance is likely to qualify them for comparable position and pay in other companies.

Pros

Fast paced environment with LOTS of hands-on experience with many different tools. The people are the reason to stay, lots of smart and caring people, managers, and leaders towards the bottom of the food chain.

Cons

Upper Management has completely destroyed this company and gutted it. In my several years at the company, communication is as poor as it could be. Bonuses are promised and then not followed up on. RIFs happen far too frequently. It is abundantly clear that this company does NOT care about it's employees, and at the moment is almost seems like they are trying as hard as they can to get people to quit so they don't have to pay severances before acquiring more companies and moving headquarters to Texas. The culture in the days of Overstock was incredible, it made people excited about being able to work there. Now people are hanging on by threads, large teams are now carried on the backs of just 1-2 people without additional pay as we see co-workers get laid off left and right. It is not sustainable. Important things are being missed because there are not enough people to do the work, which will end up biting the company in the butt for compliance and finance reasons.
