Pros

There're a few talented people in the office that generally cares about the success of the company.

Cons

BigCommerce is a really political company. There are always people being forced out, fired, or laid off because they don't belong to the Big Boys Club. In recent months, the SF office have eliminated a large number of roles (Products, Engineers, Managers, Directors), and the reason given was a workforce reduction. However, within a few days after the "workforce reduction" the company see the need for a "growth and expansion" by promoting a group of Caucasians to the same positions that was previously held by Asians. BigCommerce had a history of promoting only people of certain color to take on the more important expanded roles, regardless of whether they achieved anything. The leadership team, especially within Engineering, often gets promoted over and over simply by hiding in a conference room passed out drunk or gossip with their minions. The leadership team offers very little toward the minimal viable products nor made any contributions other than crack jokes in meetings. The CEO and CTO have done nothing to look into the comments about unfair treatments and discriminations that was provided in the various "culture survey" and 360 reviews. What's worse is BigCommerce asked the folks that was eliminated to sign an agreement to not sue the company on age, gender, and racial discrimination. BigCommerce constantly talk about the awesomeness in their culture. No one outside of the HR department actually believed in the culture. All of the "Best workplace" awards was the outcome of HR's daily reminder to the managers to "kindly" nudge their team to submit a positive vote. This is the ugly side of BigCommerce's culture that people needs to know.

Pros

There is a lot of new leadership breathing newness into the company. There is a rebrand on the horizon, different focuses and positioning, complimentary portfolio products, brilliant staff, new company values and more.

Cons

There has been a ton of change and while the new leadership is great, they are still getting their touch on things. This isn't all so much a con in general as it is to absorb, communicate, explain and soak in.

Pros

- BC hires great people - Is finally focusing on the product and its ideal customer rather than trying to be a product that it isn't. - Supportive culture - Good work life balance - Senior and Director leadership is caring and supportive - Really positive outlook for the product

Cons

- Has cut 10% of staff every year for the last 3 years and last year they cut most of their top performers that brought in the most revenue - No 401k match (although they may now) - Lower pay than most tech companies for the same roles - Either BC has the right people in place or they have the right direction to work in with the right leadership but never both - If you are remote, you aren't invited to the office much even for kick offs or planning. So you will feel a bit secluded. - Not much room for career growth as they keep cutting people
