Pros
Lots of responsibilities; a lot of smart people, many of whom were laid off arbitrarily... it made NO sense who got laid off. I mean, the employee of the month got laid off! WTF, and they let go of all of the Canadian team, which was made up of superstars form other teams, immediately after hiring Sephora's former Canadian president. If he can't fix it, who can? What a mess. Wait, is this supposed to be pros? I guess it used to be fun to work there. The turning point was when one co-founder left in summer 2015. I think a lot of people discounted her as the less valuable CEO, but she had her hands dirty with the staff, and was really relatable and a big heart. I personally like both founders, but I think the balance was shifted after that. Oh, right... pros. Ummm, I got so much free beauty stuff! And I made some friends. They all got laid off or quit right after.
Cons
Disorganized. No checks and balances from the top. Some people are huge offenders of spending and not being monitored, whereas the people who report to them are on lockdown, despite clearly being the more responsible party. This is because of some institutionalism/nepotism. You really can't run a big company with global dreams and hire 27 year olds to run every department... the hurt is finally showing itself, and perhaps too late to fix it. What's the goal now, Birchbox? To be sold to Sephora? I don't even want my stock options... yuck! I used to think there was good upward mobility at Birchbox, but they "flattened" the org to make everyone's titles consistent. This resulted in lots of "promotions" with no raises. Dumb. And the health insurance is garbage town. Looks like my koolaid ran out! Got me some juicy red lips, no need for lipstick now haha!
