Pros

It was interesting to work with some of the biggest names in the music industry. The day would be varied and would keep you tested in multiple disciplines of work, not just what you were employed to be doing. The employees were smart, genuinely warm and friendly and some of the most hard working people I've ever worked with.

Cons

Management employed underhand tactics internally to make the company feel less like a team-effort and more like Hunger Games. Found management who swung between NY & LA to be exceptionally sexist towards the women in the company and scattered in leadership skills and direction. Not enough product knowledge and a reluctance to listen to employees generally. Too much emphasis on "fake it till we make it" and making a product that is there just to be sold to the highest bidder, rather than creating the best user experience for both the artists and fans. No strategy. Found it demoralizing to get consistent negative feedback from artists and management about the app. Acquisition of fake DAU & social activity was a joke.

Pros

The people at Bkstg are great. Especially in design and product. I had a good salary here, very competitive with the rest of east coast. I think the previous CEO's vision was interesting but hard to understand so that created issues. It was a really fun work environment, and no middle management politics, so employees got along great. Surprisingly little politics for a big startup. Overall really fun and hardworking people. I did learn a lot.

Cons

A lot of changes in the year I was working there, huge restructuring of management level, though probably for the better. I beleive a lot of people were pissed because they were let go, including myself, but overall it was a great experience working with some of the smartest and nicest people in NYC so you gotta let it go and not take it personally. Working with the people in LA wasn't always easy. They aren't very tech savvy compare to the NYC team. Time difference also made some projects difficutl.
