Pros

• Highly talented peer group; plenty of opportunity to learn from experts in finance and engineering. • Compensation and 401(k) match competitive with other large asset-management firms. • Solid internal tools and technology budget—easy to get the hardware and software needed to do the job. • Well-funded ERGs and DEI initiatives are available for those who want to engage.

Cons

• Management transparency is inconsistent: some teams share roadmaps and feedback openly, others rely on vague or last-minute direction. • Performance reviews can hinge on unsubstantiated “soft-skill” critiques without examples, making it hard to improve or defend your record. • Long-tenured employees may find marquee projects allocated to a small inner circle; growth work can be limited. • Raises/bonuses increasingly tied to subjective perceptions rather than measurable impact, which can disadvantage seasoned staff. • HR tends to align with management when disputes arise; employees seeking clarity must be persistent and document everything.

Pros

Branding branding branding!!! an incredible brand, and having it on your resume opens some doors but not all.

Cons

The Preqin acquisition never really found its identity after becoming part of BlackRock. It felt like the focus shifted from listening to clients to fitting Preqin into a broader BlackRock strategy. As AI changes how firms access and analyze private market data, simply being a data provider isn’t enough anymore. My impression was that Preqin’s long-term value is likely to come from being integrated into the broader Aladdin ecosystem and APIs, rather than remaining a standalone platform. Leadership would benefit from spending more time listening to customers and the teams on the front lines instead of assuming they already know what the market wants.
