Pros

I have really enjoyed working with the team here and love the open communication style and support provided by leadership. Lack of red tape is refreshing and it has provided a lot of room for growth. Team is generally supportive, friendly, passionate and a work/life balance is emphasized (almost to a fault in some cases). Growing client base offers a wide range of experience rather than working in client silos. Great WFH policy and overall comparable benefits and compensation to other agencies.

Cons

Currently experiencing some growing pains associated with the split of talent between the Chicago and Grand Rapids offices and there needs to be more alignment in terms of culture and professional expectations between offices. Communication and accountability across teams needs to be addressed in order to provide the best for clients. Promotions and merit increases are rarely given and should be based more heavily on performance, especially while absorbing other roles, rather than length of employment. Vacation policy could be altered a bit to be more comparable to other agencies in the area and should be more evenly spread across team members. WFH policy is sometimes taken advantage of by certain people who become unresponsive.

Thank you for the honest nature of your review and the feedback you provided related to the Cons of working at Blue Flame Thinking. Many of your observations are things we're hoping to focus more on this year as part of our 'oneBFT' initiative. As a new business with 54 years of history behind us, it's a careful balance between sustainable transformation and breaking things, but we'll get there. Thank you for everything you did while working at BFT, wishing you the best in your next position!

Pros

- Good benefits and pay - Healthy work and people management - Work life balance is great for a marketing agency - No interpersonal drama and toxic people--they stand up for their best workers.

Cons

- Marketing as an industry can be really fast paced and busy, there is no exception here. Active management is so important in this industry, and they do a great job!

Pros

As the title mentions, there's a lot of wonderfully talented people at BFT. Some of the best I've worked with in my career, who care immensely about doing great work that brings results to their clients. Total compensation is competitive, with a decent bonus structure and generous healthcare contributions from the company. Both locations have beautiful office space and offer a fair amount of flexibility and work from home perks.

Cons

Executive Leadership is out of touch with their employees and their clients, caring most about profit when they should be focused on bringing solutions that actually benefit their clients' businesses. Very important business decisions are made based on emotion and 'gut' feelings without anyone paying attention to long-term impacts or the core reasons behind the visible symptoms of failure. Employees are disrespected, lied to and lied about (to both other employees AND clients) as a matter of course in order to preserve a false sense that without the brilliance of the leadership team the place wouldn't survive. Meanwhile some of the best and brightest employees are mistreated, thrown under the bus and generally bullied until they either leave or stop caring. There's enough ego in the executive team to fuel 100 Madison Avenue shops. For an agency that was on an upward trajectory, it's sad to see. And clients are noticing, too.
