Pros
- A new, personal phone was offered, so at least there was some way of having a seperate personal and work life (but you quickly come to realise that this is Susan's way of not allowing you to build relationships with the clients/accounts you've been looking after you leave). - People would occassionally be promoted (after roughly 3-4 years, which is incredibly slow for people with good degrees and grit) - Occassional gifts (birthdays, very small Christmas bonus in voucher form) Otherwise, barely anything good to say here, so will move on.
Cons
- Postive and negative discrimination: MD would often make a lot of claims about the character of different racial/class profiles which I personally found incredibly alarming, characterising certain groups as "hardworking immigrants" and often carrying out ageist bashing against "millennials" - A "founder-led" business in the worst way: MD had little abilty to control own temper and often alternated screaming at people with chirpy singing. A lot of blame was attributed (more misattibuted) and there was a lot of one-way namecalling. - Was explicitly asked what I was previously earning which Susan herself put me under pressure to disclose (I understand that it is the individual's right whether or not they choose to do this under UK law) - Was micromanaged under an ancient manual system and when suggestions were made to switch to a more modern system, this seemed to be cause for an intervention. - Generally mistrustful of remote working processes and witness several colleagues being called lazy for opting for more flexible working processes so- though mothers seemed to be granted an exception from this. - The "development" budget seemed to only be granted if it benefitted Susan directly, though of course this was never the topline that was given. Otherwise, personally found it claustrophobic and not a good work environment for those with a more ambitious disposition. Left with diminished self-worth and was substanstially out of pocket for all of the therapy I took on as a result of the awful time i had at work. All in all, it felt similar to how people describe domestic abuse cases and was asked by several friends to quit for my own sake.
