Pros

There was absolutely nothing good about my work experience at Braze. Maybe a few of the people in IC roles.

Cons

My entire experience at Braze was negative. From my very first day to trying to return my equipment post-resignation, it was a complete and utter mess. Disorganization, catty, high school mean girl/frat boy behavior, a really weird obsession with their wanna-be-messiah CEO... and abusive, cruel, angry management—it's honesly a miracle the company has been even remotely successful. The disgusting and dominant white, male bro-like culture and blatant disregard for anyone who doesn't fit that mould (mostly women) was a total deal-breaker for me. While I was there, I watched two people from management have a full-on screaming match over a small disagreement in front of room full of their employees, witnessed incredibly talented people who had the audacity to ask questions about the way the company was being run get fired, and more than once sat in shock as my "manager" took credit for work or an idea that was actually mine. I also watched a senior-level manager encourage a mid-level manager to bully a lovely, competant colleague of mine until they nearly had a mental breakdown and finally quit to protect themselves. I, myself, was forced to tears over the way I was treated several times at Braze—that has never happened at any other company I have ever worked for, ever. This is a horribe, soul-crushing place to work. It took me MONTHS to get myself back together again and shake off the trauma of my experience after quitting—the abuse, stress, and negativity were that bad.

Pros

Braze has a good product. Comp is average to slightly below average for the industry. A lot of smart people pass through the doors of Braze. Most of them don't last long.

Cons

Product: Between legacy tech companies moving into customer engagement and smaller startups with similar / cheaper products, Braze's future looks pretty bleak. Equity: Braze's stock price has been in free fall for more than a year and is still overvalued at $20. Your equity might be worthless by the time you vest. Career growth: Internal promotions are few and far between and are never based on quality of work or merit. More often than not, people with no understanding of the product or industry are hired to manage long-tenured experts who didn't need managing in the first place. Culture: High achieving, competent people at Braze are seen as a threat to leadership. They eventually get fed up and leave because they can't get promoted or are forced to answer to managers that were hired over them for jobs they deserved. When they leave, they take their expertise to competitors or other industries and 3 or 4 people are usually needed to do the work they leave behind. Leadership: Braze churns through VPs + middle management at an alarming clip. Great leaders quit because they're not prepared for the micromanagement they endure and can't actually get anything done. The ones that seem to stick were only hired because they worked at Zendesk w/ the CBO or at Salesforce with someone in the Sales org. Not because they have relevant management experience, understand strategy, or the product.
