Closer to a consulting firm than a hedge fund - Investment Analyst Intern Bridgewater Associates Employee Review

Pros

- Interns housed for free in NYC. The accommodation itself sucked, but it was free and in the heart of NYC, so I'll take it. - Quite a good salary for an internship. - Very interesting and unusual interview style - different from anything else I've ever seen. - Could be good for you if you're into consulting style work.

Cons

- Not particularly rigorous. They really believe in the whole debate thing, and come to conclusions based on debating ideas. Which is totally fine if you agree with the claim, but in my experience it boiled down to more of who was a better speaker/writer than whose argument was more correct. - The fund performance has been quite abysmal for years now, and so they're leaning more and more heavily on their consulting arm. - It's hard to exaggerate just how strange the culture is - and it's not the kind of thing where you can just suck it up and live with it, you really do need to be okay with it - The commute from NYC to Westport truly sucks. People don't factor this in nearly enough, and this singularly decided for me that I wasn't going to accept the return offer. I just could not do that commute for the rest of my professional career, and I was not interested in living in Middle of Nowhere, Connecticut.
