Pros
None-this place has many company names, all owned by either the main guy or the CFO. They pay people in an unusual way, in my experience. I was told that I would be paid by Company A (owned by the CFO), who then invoices the owner of Buttross, so Company A doesn't actually manage anything or decide anything. The owner of Buttress determines compensation, and is technically the final boss and decision maker. So the company paying you is irrelevant.
Cons
The pretend leadership attempts to mentally abuse you. Daily yelling between owner and/or CFO and assistants; completely unprofessional on every level; they lie about compensation, lie about actual job, lie about being ethical, lie about wanting to be in compliance with federal and state laws, lie about their plans, lie about basically everything - except maybe their names. Not least of all, the owner and the CFO don't understand much about real estate in general. They don't know or follow the laws, they don't care about lying to buyers/borrowers (they say they own the property and sign contracts with the unsuspecting people, when they don't actually own the property!). They also sign TWO different types of legal real estate contracts with the buyers. Effective and open at the same time, but they have different terms! That's completely against everything you are supposed to do when signing contracts in real estate. They don't understand closings in general. They can't tell the difference between tax prorations and taxes due. They don't care about the disclosure laws and disobey them daily. And, if you're reading this thinking you can teach them all that, please understand they don't care. You aren’t allowed to put proper / correct procedures in place. People, including me, have tried explaining the magnitude of their potentially illegal processes, and they reply "This is the way we've always done it, and this is the way we'll keep doing it." They also tell you not to locate client files and send out copies to the client. ??? So if you can't find a file, there is literally no way to track it - there is no tracking system for anything because they don't have the software capabilities. The reason: it costs too much money. They are trying to set up a closing office so they can close everything in house. They may tell you that you can run it. But you can't. It's micromanaged to the point of having to punch a time clock, being told who you can and can't talk to, yelling at someone if they speak to a coworker during a simultaneous break (they don't want people to break at the same time because "it spreads gossip"), and any other horror story you've heard about micromanagers. Oh - they constantly call you the wrong name even if you've worked there several months. They interrupt everyone regularly, the owner has people doing the same thing at the same time (which is very inefficient and wasteful), duplicate contracts are repeatedly delivered by agents, causing up to 5 files being created for the same transaction (because there is no software to track anything!). The list goes on for miles. In addition, there is NO parking! About 6 cars fit in the lot (which is super close to a major road, so you have to back out into the busy city street just to get out) - emails are sent out in all caps telling people that only the owner and another person are allowed to park there. Everyone else has to park on residential side streets and walk, which causes problems in bad weather. Not to mention that the pretend law office/closing office you might work in can't actually get business because local realtors and lenders refuse to make their clients walk that far - they just send their business to a professional office with a parking lot and a nice atmosphere. It's a joke. Can you imagine taking a realtor, lender, or any other client for that matter to an office where you can hear yelling every single day?? NO ONE in this market will stand for that. Workers shouldn’t stand for it, either. If you hear the lie about getting a new office once business picks up, please know it's just to get you to keep your mouth shut. They have admitted that will never happen. The owner forgot he already mentioned he owns buildings that could be used for that purpose. He just has no actual plans to do so. You won't get business and you won't run anything. This place only wants "yes" men. If you are wiling to be involved in unethical/possibly illegal activities, if you are willing to work in a toxic environment wherein people are mentally abused, and you don't ever want to be listened to or have input, or even have the ability to move up, then by all means, say yes to the offer. Which will probably be…..work on a contract basis, then potentially move to employee status. Don't hold your breath. Plus, the owner told me personally that he does this because he doesn't want to be responsible for someone if he doesn't like them after 2 weeks. If he hires on a contract basis, and someone accepts that offer, then he has no guilt about saying adios after a couple of weeks. In addition, he said he only hires people that aren't leaving a salaried job because he doesn't want to feel guilty if/when he tells them "see ya," after having them leave a "better paying/better benefits position." Obviously, when he told me that, he completely forgot that I had been one of those salaried people who believed his lies and thought he was ethical and honest. I was duped. He forgot I was one of the ones he duped. Certain personalities lie so often they can't keep up with their own story lines. Please learn from my experience.
