Pros

90% of the time, Work-Life Balance is great. Rare to have to travel. Good, challenging projects.

Cons

Bill rate is extremely low for consulting. Small company in the grand scheme of things Clients typically have less money and are small. Expect to earn a fraction of what you could earn in industry. Turnover is HIGH bc CDM Smith likes to give small pay bumps. I've had many managers here who say that you need to work 60 hours but bill 40 to move up at CDM. That is not happening at the salary that they offer. They do not offer you stake in the company's stock until you are titled which typically takes 8-10 years of working off your tush, you be good at sales, or you have some connections.

Pros

Flexible hybrid schedule is very nice and starting salary is high for early career engineers.

Cons

The main people running the company are not engineers and you can tell. They are all focused on utilization with rates often set at 97% or higher. This had led to my supervisor asking/telling me to not charge company required trainings. As an early engineer it really feels like they don't want to invest in me and only care about their bottom line. If you are an early career structural engineer you will also not get any meaningful work until you've been with the company for at least 5 years. The senior engineers do not trust you and will only give you grunt work.
