Pros

7 days a week work of wanted. PTO. Good benefits. Semi - decent starting pay. All the PPE you could ever need. Brotherhood/camaraderie amongst low - level employees. A small sense of being a part of something bigger then yourself.

Cons

No limit on how many hours certain employees are expected to work straight without sleep until an issue is resolved within the plant. When production is down safety is overlooked quite often. Hours can be cut anytime of the year without warning based on sales or getting trains out of the quarry. Lots of favoritism. Lots of “Do as I say, not as I do”, by Managers and Leads (aka assistant manager). You might make the same or close to as much as the guy next to you but do 4 times the work on a regular bases.

Pros

Overall, it’s a really good company—probably some of the best benefits in the industry, and that’s one of the main reasons I chose to work here.

Cons

My advice to anyone considering it: be careful about the promises you’re made during the hiring process. Make sure everything is put in writing, and make sure it’s exact—your position, job description, responsibilities, and what is expected of you. Things can change. If the person who hired you leaves or moves on, the person who replaces them may see things differently and change everything. That can include doing away with the position you were hired for and moving you into a completely different role—one you may have never left your previous job to take in the first place.
