Pros

The Pay (mangers have no idea of how to operate trains) CSX is run by #s (which are faked per onboard) and run by a hedge fund not railroaders who’s only goal is to cut costs and make each quarter more profitable. Historically and common sense railroads don’t sell there lines....... like funny joke did you ever sell your railroads in monopoly 🤔 NO you mortgaged them but never ever sold them the people running this comsnpny Lacks the experience or knowledge to run a railroad. Instead they are running a numbers games and that’s why it’s failing.

Cons

You’re a #, helping the company isn’t rewarded, you’re the first to blame, doing your job right “delay of train, doing your job wrong rule violation” either way every day is a constant attempt by mangers to fire you catch you doing a rule wrong (which they change the rules it seems like monthly now) nothing todo with railroading just CYA for them so you can’t sue them ex- “clear of all tracks” “place of safety” “point from the ground” 🙄 three ways to say the same thing that has changed over the past 3 years...... The real sticker now with the company is man power shortages and cover ups of their actual numbers “dwell times and such” forcing conductors to lie daily on the onboard to fix there numbers so middle management doesn’t get yelled at..... just try and say you aren’t going to lie on the on board and recently the company’s new displace policy includes “ insubordination “ which CSX mangers can use for anything they please. Contractually naps were included in our line of work to help with exhausted conductors/engineers stuck in a spot not moving (trains block trains a lot) to allow them to catch up on rest and be ready to go when they can that’s a thing of the past 🤔 which you’ll get charged a major rule violation now for napping on the job even if you’re stuck in a spot for 3+ hours due to dispatching widows something tottaly uncontrollable and nothing todo with you. (Ninja Trainmaster love sneaking up on you and make sure you’re awake and just sitting there staring into space) The company recently in its never ending attempt to make working for them a living hell has decided to force either an engineer or conductor to show up and sit for 8 hours at the office when they don’t have an engineer or conductor to fill the two man crew agreement. Example for Christmas Eve your engineer is off on a vacation day and you show up to work and required to sit and do nothing for 8 hours (btw don’t sleep that’s a no no) (don’t play on your phone either it’s “unauthorized use of a personal cellar device” ) CSX refuses to Annul jobs when one crew member isn’t a single to work either because they are fixing their number or just making their employees come to work and sit because they can. I’m actually shocked at why I pay union dues I think the unions should have striked a long time ago....

Pros

Fair minded and supportive management. Not directly involved in RR management, so did not have the same hours or demands as many do.

Cons

None really--large publicly held company. Working on a contract basis, so can't speak to benefits.
