Pros

-You have full control of your schedule and work on your own terms and hours, since you work for yourself -The job itself is easy since you can do this job on your computer or tablet anywhere with a strong wifi connection -Very laidback teaching control of your environment -You can travel full-time and be wherever you want in the world with this job, allowing for better work-life balance -This job is perfect for anyone young wanting more time to travel but also wanting to still earn an income at the same time

Cons

-Taxes, you are responsible for saving and paying out your taxes each year if you are American, and the taxes for an independent contractor can be quite a chunk for making not even $11/hour -No opportunity for a raise. I worked at Cambly for five years and never made above $10.20/hour. -No health insurance or dental insurance available -No physical colleagues or collaboration of a workplace, you are pretty isolated unless you join a Facebook forum or other online community -No opportunity for growth, once again, because you have no control over any sort of raise and therefore earn the same having years of experience under your belt vs. someone else who has zero experience -Long hours, and you don't always make the full $10.20/hour and are technically paid $0.17/minute. If you have a student who doesn't show up, then you are only paid a fraction of the $10.20 and the time online can become exhausting and wasteful.

Pros

Very flexible schedule (you create your own), can easily cancel classes without too much of a penalty (make every student that you like a "regular" student so that if you get penalized...only regulars can book you...you have a huge pool of regulars), Cambly provides lessons, you can use almost any website as long as you don't need to share login information, it's fun and easy, many students become like friends, you can learn about different countries, cultures, and languages

Cons

The pay. It has never increased in the 14 years that Cambly has been in business. They are starting to offer a new program called "Cambly Pro" where you can make $15 an hour, but you have to apply to be a tutor for it and you could be denied. You have to have a 99% rating for 3 months to even be considered. If, like me, you are open to all students (and not just your regular students that you have become friends with), your rating can vary widely. No matter how good of a tutor you are, you will not be everyone's cup of tea. Also, Cambly does not allow tutors to teach in some states in the U.S. due to labor laws.
