Free room + board (bc it's a sleepaway camp), amazing culture and staff community, you will absolutely love your summer and relax away from all the stressors of life off the island

Cons

The salary is kinda mediocre

Pros

So glad I decided to work at camp rather than an office internship. I'll have fond memories for decades to come.

Cons

Not many except for kids who are homesick.

Pros

Johns island is an idyllic place to work with unparalleled natural beauty. The campers are a joy to work with and the camp culture is very strong, with many returning campers. Provided food and shelter for the duration of employment is a nice bonus.

Cons

Low pay apart from the free meals, and as a sleepaway camp there is limited opportunity for time off. The biggest issue though was the staff culture. A large ratio of staff were former campers and treated their job as an opportunity to socialize and catch up with old friends. This resulted in some very unprofessional interactions between staff and a few staff members being ostracized and ganged up upon by other staff just because they didn't fit in. Working here felt like high school all over again.
