Pros
1. The people that I work with day-to-day are smart, passionate, open-minded problem solvers. 2. We solve real problems. There isn’t a shortage of problems to be solved related to access to higher education. But there are key big ones, and every day we work on solving those problems. Ultimately, whether or not students (particularly historically excluded students) opt to attend college, where they choose to attend, and how prepared they are upon arrival all have huge implications for the educational attainment disparities and wealth gaps that we see in this country. I’m still here after my former company (RaiseMe) was acquired because I work with people who have the courage to change the world. That’s our goal and we keep it top of mind as we work to address systemic issues. 3. I feel encouraged to work smarter and hold my colleagues accountable to having a healthy work-life balance.
Cons
A con for me was the period of tension and uncertainty experienced during the company acquisition. I’ve been through a couple of acquisitions, and they are never easy because of the amount of change that takes place. Now that we are past that initial stage, I’m very confident in our point of view and ability to do some amazing things.
