You don’t get any benefits if you work part time. If you’re uncomfortable working with a certain family, they will make you feel bad about it. Get ready to be compared constantly to a previous therapist by a client’s caregiver that has 15 more years experience than you, be presented with a two page long list of house rules for you by the family, upload clinical notes to a website that continuously has technical errors, bond with a client for three months- family and client tell you they love you and that their child is always looking forward and excited to play with you, says you’re a great fit, but as soon as their child bites you for the first time ever and you scold them, you’re all of a sudden “not a great fit” for their child anymore. Get ready to be talked about behind your back by your coworkers and clients’ families, and get ready to have no input in anything. Get ready to be treated unfairly if you have little to no ABA experience. If you try to say goodbye to the family you will get fired. Isn’t it great?! It’s cruel, judgmental, and unfair. I don’t even believe in ABA therapy anymore after reading testimonies and stories from people who have autism who had ABA therapy when they were children. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
