Pros

The pay was reasonable for an after-school program, there were diverse options for students and it was an educational opportunity. I found that depending on the program, students could be guided more to what they wanted to do and lesson plans could fluctuate to engage students more. I would NOT recommend this to people just looking to becoming elementary school teachers. Without the education schooling, I think it can be dangerous to teach children! I seriously would caution anyone who is wanting to work with children toward this program without first learning behavior skills for kids with mild learning disabilities and classroom management.

Cons

The training is little to none and once you are set up at whatever program it is very difficult to balance communicating to teachers about site management with multiple teachers and parental communication. There is a lot of tact needed that the bare minimum training makes you suffer from and implementing necessary guidelines is very hard with the children coming from different backgrounds. More than anything it's hard to meet children's needs coming from a full day of school! I would highly recommend anyone wanting to work here more than a few months firstly have some knowledge about children and have an idea of working with other professionals in an industry for customer service.
