Pros

- You get to work with really smart, ambitious and talented people which raises the bar for yourself and others - Excellent rigour when it comes to system design and overall technical depth from almost everyone you work with, including product - Excellent office location with great amenities (such as free lunch) and dog friendly

Cons

- Regardless of your pillar or business unit - expect a very top-down, waterfall approach to planning which means rigid estimates and timelines. When the plan inevitably has to shift, it leads to endless trade-off discussions and friction. This leads to burnout and disengagement for many, me included. - Engineering is often tasked with estimating high-level requirements and when larger estimates are provided to account for ambiguity - pressure is applied to reduce them. Though not always unhealthy, the speed and intensity this occurs at Checkout is. - Re-organisation is a common occurrence. Both local (i.e within the pillar/business unit) and within the business. Some people that have worked here for 4 years have seen five or or more team changes - usually (in 90% of cases) not initiated by them. i.e stuff happens to you and you have to deal with it.

Pros

Good salary, thats about it

Cons

Toxic work culture, they want you to work from 6 am to 9pm. If you do not speak french or are not french you will feel like an outsider. Favoritism is big here, manager have their favorites and will feed them inbounds. Very hard to get approval to go to conferences, and there is no ROI, longer reps hold on to bigger name merchants for years even though they are not having any impact, and no one does anything about it.
