Pros

- The mission is inspiring - The programs and music team are heros - Hybrid work (Mondays & Fridays at home) - Free parking - Large bank of PTO that is front-loaded - The entry and mid-level employees are hardworking, creative, and passionate - Some passionate and kind donors & committee members

Cons

I had hope and then was quickly disappointed. The leadership team treats this non-profit like a corporation and not a non-profit. They are money-motivated and not attached to the mission anymore. When the money does not come in, layoffs are made. Leadership talks over lower-level employees in meetings and does not take the time to listen to suggestions or concerns. I even overheard a member of the leadership talking about me, a mid-level employee, in the lunch room and how I was not experienced enough after I had only been with the organization for a month and I was still learning my role. They realized I overheard them and have avoided me since - this was a year and a half ago and they still do not make the effort to get to know me. There is very little room for growth within the organization. When employees inquire about promotions they are dismissed or ignored. It is not often that employees are promoted, they hire outside the organization instead of growing their staff. QUIET FIRING. There is a high turnover rate and layoffs. Leadership claims this is common..... This leads to very little cross-training which is frustrating for new employees. No day is the same, no process is the same. The wheel is reinvented with every project.

Pros

I find both the mission and daily activities of this organization to be inspiring. I have found immense personal joy and meaning in my work here so far. There is a great deal of care here, and a willingness to navigate change in order to get back on track with strategic priorities and common sense practices. In day-to-day operations, I see that colleagues in all departments feel alignment with the organization's mission and purpose.

Cons

Like all non-profits, there are busy times when work / life balance is difficult to maintain - but I don't think that challenge is unique. We have capacity challenges, but I think that the team that is here is fantastic. As a newer-ish team member, I respect but do not share the experiences or concerns about culture or leadership that have been voiced here. Change can be hard to navigate, but I think JoyRx is on the right track.

Pros

Meaningful mission and impactful programs. Incredible families and supportive coworkers. Good flexibility and autonomy in many roles, along with opportunities to learn and grow professionally. Generous PTO and a positive culture among many teams, including remote staff. Beautiful office space and many employees genuinely care about the work and each other.

Cons

Like many nonprofits, fundraising challenges can create stress and uncertainty. Recent turnover has affected morale in some areas of the organization, and experiences may vary between departments. The current turnover and bitterness amongst some staff, as evident in recent reviews. These opinions do not reflect the majority of current staff. There seems to be challenges in one department but this is not reflective of the organization or leadership as a whole.
