Pros
Stable employment, excellent benefits- health and retirement, mostly people who care about their communities and each other. Depending on the department, may have good advancement possibilities. In recent years, somewhat younger management that embraces quality work, skills and experience more appropriately than back in "the day."
Cons
As with all utilities, one good hurricane and forget you ever had a vacation scheduled (comes with the territory); still some old-school managers around who reward and promote NOT based on quality work, skills or experience. No consistent standard of management styles. In one department, the atmosphere is light and friendly and people get the tools they need; in another, it's micromanaged, employees are mistrusted and simple basic tool purchases are denied in the name of saving $5.
