Pros
Set schedule every other weekend and ability to pick up on extra shifts when available. No experience in the healthcare industry. Applied for and was offered position while in 1st year of school. Accepted position with hopes of eventually obtaining a full-time position. Ability to learn hands on about various health insurance and how they work while actually working in the field was amazing.
Cons
Staff was amazing to work with. ER physicians and nurses weren't always the easiest or nicest people to work with. Superiority complexes and demeaning attitudes toward students and anyone without a doctorate/nursing degree were beneath them. There was a lot of miscommunication between departments because registration was not being advised on what was done and/or needed and the ER doctors and/or nurses felt as though it was beneath them to do menial tasks. Continuous conflicts within departments and staff which resulted in unhappy patients.
