Pros

Compass's products are top notch and industry leading, and they continue to innovate. The business development and product management decisions are smart, and the company is taking a long view to smart growth, which can be rare nowadays. The people are a major strength here as well- from top to bottom a phenomenally smart, fun, experienced, and hard working group of people with an incredible wealth of industry knowledge to learn from. Company culture is very casual- casual dress, paid lunches, etc Salaries are good and bonuses are strong

Cons

Not my silo, but some personnel are probably worked too hard by having to wear too many hats. Hours can be long and clients demanding; some steps to mitigate this would help to keep employee morale high. Vacation and time off for things like doctor appointments etc are limited.

Pros

I can't speak for more experienced hires, but the salary potential at Compass is extremely strong for less experienced professionals. I started at Compass 3 years removed from college and was making nearly double my previous income after 1.5 years at the firm. In addition to learning a lot about the mortgage industry, I also developed quite a bit as a professional as you're really forced to own your work, both for the good and the bad. The sense of entitlement in the other reviews is beyond preposterous based on my experience. I would have stayed at Compass for at least a while longer if it were not for a dream opportunity that came about out of nowhere from prior networking I'd done.

Cons

Because of the nature of the job being on a trading desk, expect to be in your seat from 8am-5pm every day, all day. There is a lot to learn, both in terms of industry knowledge and skills within the software. You can and will get left behind if you're not putting in the effort to learn and ask questions. The old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the grease is certainly true here.
