Pros

The only positive I can say about my time at Contrast is that it’s over. I’m very grateful for that.

Cons

In my 17 year career I can honestly say that I’ve never worked at a company as bad as this. And it’s not even close. Grossly incompetent management. Most of them were mainly concerned with looking good to the “important” people. Whose own interest was to just keep themselves in their positions. Those who didn’t fall in line with this whole scheme were outright abused and eventually laid off. The company has had no strategy, no vision. No answer to the ever shrinking customer base and lack of new sales. Except a lot of corporate jargon and power point slides. And of course layoffs, lots of them. I never felt so invisible, so unappreciated, so frustrated, so demoralized as I did at this company.

Pros

Exciting Vision & Renewed Focus: The company has undergone significant changes, but the new leadership is steering us in the right direction. The focus on IAST and ADR as key solutions is a game-changer for application security. Transparency & Culture Shift: Management has made a real effort to be more transparent and bring back the startup energy that made this company great in the first place. Passionate & Talented Team: Despite the challenges, the passion among employees is returning. The people who remain are dedicated, talented, and genuinely want to see the company succeed. Opportunities for Impact: With a more focused product direction, employees have a real chance to shape the future of appsec and work on cutting-edge security solutions.

Cons

Layoff Aftermath: The layoffs were tough on morale, and the company is still recovering. Some employees are struggling with the rapid changes. Execution Needs to Catch Up to Vision: While the vision is exciting, there’s still work to be done in executing it effectively and ensuring everyone is aligned. Shifting Priorities: With a history of trying multiple products across SAST, IAST, Serverless, and SCA, some employees are feeling uncertain about the long-term roadmap and what success looks like.

Pros

Once upon a time you could say you worked with some interesting tech. But it’s hopelessly obsolete now. It’s like saying in 2026 that you are working with MS-DOS.

Cons

This is clearly the last stage of the years of turbulence. - The CRO quit (the latest in a long series of failed ones). - The CFO also said bye bye. - There have been a slew of other high profile departures, especially in customer facing roles. All of this exodus in a very short amount of time. Whatever little hope we had of hanging on to the remaining customers, are pretty much gone now. But the CEO and his pals are all still firmly in place. In fact one of them was recently officially promoted to CPO. Gotta have that title to help get the next job when Contrast fails. Of course the extra $$$ doesn't hurt. The CEO announced this internally and externally, without the slightest hint of shame. All the while people who have spent years building up and sustaining this company through sheer talent and dedication are being regularly given the pink slip. Just when you thought this company couldn't stoop any lower, you are proved wrong, again and again. Because one thing never changes here: sociopathy.
