Pros
The benefits package and regular work hours. I work a 9/80 schedule, which gives me every other Friday off. Additionally, our county participates in CALPERS, the state pension fund, offering retirement benefits with the formula 3%@60. We get all the government holidays off, and my job receives 30 days of annual leave(vacation and sick days) and a week of educational leave. The health benefits are about average and do require some out of pocket costs. For my position, I am not required to be "on call" outside of my regular work hours.
Cons
As with any government entity, there is a certain level of bureaucracy.
