Pros
-Cool excursions here and there that expose you to different arts spaces and events you may not already be familiar with -A great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the work style expected in NY for a grant-awarding nonprofit -Meet artists! -Office library with previous awardees projects; definitely flip through some when you can -They really want you to leave feeling like you had a material contribution to the org, so self-direct how you feel is best. I recommend really leaning in to the experience to leave with strong skill sets that you’ll feel confident with when you enter the job market (my biggest regret is not leaning in)
Cons
-Pretty isolating…especially if there are no other interns, it’s hard getting to know people or determining if anyone even has the time/desire to chat -No real structure for shadowing others or seeing what projects are most pressing and how they get done. Not sure if this is because of a confidentiality issue or if it’s just uncomfortable, but I would’ve enjoyed spending time talking through different company projects, databases, softwares used, etc. now and then -Hard to establish a connection = hard to feel like I can list anyone as a reference in the future!
