I have seen several times when a manager that wanted to make this a good place to work was replaced with a "My Way or the Highway" corporate automaton. If you are an intelligent, ambitious, thinking person you are a threat to management and they will make it a personal vendetta to squash you or drive you out, quote "You are just an hourly employee, you have no value other than how much money you can make for ME".
