Pros

When the internship ended is the only positive thing I can think about.

Cons

The Dumbo BID has created a hostile work environment. I am interested in urban planning and thought I would have an ability to learn while impacting the neighborhood. Alexandria Sica is a manipulative and self serving leader. I feel bad for the few people working full time. She treats everyone like they are her assistant and that she can do whatever she wants. I was shut down several times in front of other people for simply suggesting ways to improve events. They also employ a lot of interns and use near free labor for their sanitation work which is unethical based on my experience. I cannot believe I didn't quit on day one but it's a toxic work environment stay away!!

Pros

Small business, hands on experience learning many aspects of operation. Many opportunities to connect with the wonderful world of DUMBO, and all of it's varied business people. Provides opportunities for autonomous projects, and detailed assistance from experienced professionals to help you move into a solid position after the internship.

Cons

My only con is also a pro in many ways. Being such a small organization with many responsibilities means a lot of work in multiple arenas. As an intern, this was helpful for me in developing broad skills that allowed me to apply for a gambit of opportunities post - internship.

Pros

Kalvis and Naseem are great at their jobs and always helpful.

Cons

Team DUMBO regularly exploits contract laborers and free interns, laser focused on extracting as much labor as they can from young people with as little compensation as possible. I was heavily relied upon for all social media and graphic assets but compensation and benefits were continuously denied despite my work becoming integral to the bid’s functioning, the equivalent of a full time position. I was let go over personal issues with Clara, and received no notification that the bid would not be giving me new work, leading to a scramble that ended with me being 5 thousand in debt and receiving a legal notice that Team DUMBO was disputing my unemployment payments. The lead management of this organization is truly a sinkhole of morals and accountability, and working here essentially ruined my career.
