Unethical Bullying Culture - Paralegal Dentons Employee Review

Pros

The only pro is the central location of the firm

Cons

The partners and legal staff in my team were dishonest, unethical bullies. I was often ridiculed, berated and lectured in corridors, within hearing distance of other lawyers and staff. Favoritism and cronyism reigned supreme. An atmosphere of bullying, discrimination and thinly-disguised racism were rife, both against staff and non-Canadian clients. The HR team were totally incompetent and poorly trained, which explained the high turnover of staff, even within the HR department. I have worked at several law firms, but have never observed such utter contempt from lawyers displayed towards non-lawyers and administrative staff. Accepting an offer and staying at this firm for nearly 2 years was the biggest mistake of my life and had considerable impact on my physical and mental well-being. I considered reporting the partners and paralegals who "managed" me to the Law Society, but was concerned about my future career prospects.

Pros

Everybody there cared about working together, no ambushing, The pay was great, hours and workload manageable, I loved this firm and would go back in a heartbeat! Shout out to IT and the Assistants - their cooperation is on the next level of the "united means success" the firm enjoys.

Cons

I didn't experience or hear about any in my 5 months there, and I was on-site 4-5 days a week. I only left because I needed to care for my Covid-stricken only child.
