9yI am the CEO. Last month we let several people go who were just recently hired over the past several months. We did this because we quickly learned they didn't have the experience or skills claimed upon being hired that are needed in a startup environment. Those skills are taking initiative, being decisive, prioritization and self efficacy.
Unfortunately, they were let go unexpectedly and were not given a chance to improve. I take full responsibility for this. It really sucks on both ends. But the reason this happened is we are moving fast and we need people in those positions to take charge and I felt that given their true lack of skills and personalities that a change was highly unlikely, and we needed to move on with people who did have the direct experience and skills necessary to be successful. I’m happy to report those people are now in place and the culture is thriving.
I agree about checking your gut when interviewing. We are learning quickly to do the same. I feel that the this reviewer was not vetted thoroughly. Had we done more extensive research both on behaviors and past performance, we would have learned that it was not a good fit and avoided the disappointment from both ends. Getting these reviews has been an eye opener for us. We have since taken great steps to do more diligence in our hiring process to make sure we have the right fit.
Still, I apologize to this reviewer for their experience and believe their review is valid given the circumstances of their hiring process, lack of patience, and termination. Your review has helped us become more deliberate in our hiring decisions.
