Pros
Gets you into the industry. Some staff are great. Managers really are hit and miss. Depends on whose team you end up on. If you’re interested in a company wide party they have 2 a year. The winter one is the one you should go to at least once and prepare to dazzle in a fancy outfit. You can make great friends here and spend time with colleagues out of work on a personal basis.
Cons
You’re not asked to do something. Even if it’s not in your job description when you join some bosses will just push it on to you because they’re too busy. No conversation, no discussion. You get given it even if you don’t know what you’re doing or if you want to do it. You don’t get shown and some managers don’t care about your opinion. If you have one it’s best to be quiet as any comments usually fall on deaf ears. One manager walks around the building most of the time annoyed they’re not a board director but from what I saw and heard they don’t do that great a job at managing their own team. If you care about your mental health suss out what your managers are like early doors or you’ll go home most days feeling deflated. There’s no clear procedure if you’re struggling or how best to raise awareness or even if you have a complaint. Oh and summer/winter parties, be prepared to travel to central London and if you don’t want to go your manager will either tell you to rsvp that you’re going, saves them an awkward conversation, or be prepared to be harassed until one of you backs down and gives up.
