Pros

Being a full time employee. Being a full-time employee has many great benefits. Plentiful vacation and PTO. Summer/winter "gifts" (bonus) Ability to advance and make above average money at your own pace. Excellent benefits. Company outings. The work is hard but the benefits are amazing Closed Sundays Store managers starting salary is $90k a year. Store managers receive quarterly bonus equal to 20% of the stores gross profits ( this can easily exceed $100,000 AFTER taxes during the winter months.

Cons

Part-time employment and a becoming full-time employee. Being a part-time employee requires a lot of effort time and energy, which results in little given back to you in terms of pay, time off, benefits, bonus', etc. Most other employers would consider the amount of work a part-time employee puts in with Discount Tire, to be full-time employment resulting in greater pay and the benefits mentioned above. In order to become a full-time employee, in addition to being proficient in all areas of the store, you are expected to work a mandatory open to close shift 5 days a week. depending on the amount of business the store receives, this can be a 12-plus hour work day. Being a full-time employee you have little to no work-life balance, on account of being at the store 50 plus hours in a week minimum. You get transferred with little to no notice., (many full-time employees are notified of a store to store transfer at the end of a shift and told to report to their new store the next morning). This transfer is mandatory. During the winter rush, generally October through February, both full-time and part-time employees are expected to work and open to close shift, 6 days a week. You do not leave until the work for the day is done, making the work day sometimes as long as 16 hours. regardless of the amount of hours you put in at the store you cannot be considered full-time until you are on the "full time schedule" (open-close, 5 days a week minimum) even then you may still be considered part time at the company's discretion. Part-time employees (even those working 40 hour weeks, twice that in the winter time) receive none of the benefits mentioned above, the only thing you can expect to receive from being a part-time employee working 40 plus hours a week is a long day, hard work and a paycheck. unless your store manager, full-time employment pay is generally only $1 to $2 more per hour than a part-time employee. All full-time employees including store managers are required to work Saturdays and must use vacation or PTO in order to take a Saturday off. Part-time employees are very often required to work Saturdays also.
